Hi everyone!

We’re past halfway into the year! Can you believe it? Before you know it, it’s already Christmas! I hope this year has been fun and productive with you. I haven’t seen or spoken to some of you for a long time. I’d LOVE to catch up with you and let me know how you’re doing and what’s new in your corner of the world! For those of you who are more local, let’s set up a time to get together and chat!

As you may (or may not) know, I’m a music educator. I’m in the process of expanding my studio since I’ve decided to specialize in teen and adult piano/keyboard students as of last year. I’m having so much fun with such easy-going, appreciative, motivated, dedicated, and loyal people like my current students and I want to work with MORE people like them! I feel particularly called to help more older students as in traditional music teaching there’s lack of attention to them, especially those who want to learn contemporary music, both as a hobby and as a profession. As a result, they’ve been conditioned to have self-doubt, thinking that they’re too old and/or too busy to learn, which is causing them not to take action, though they’ve always wanted to play music. Traditional teaching also tends to focus too heavily on theory and interpretation (i.e. simply regurgitating traditional music written by other people) and other technicalities instead of directly applying practical, relevant skills to play music that people actually love and use in everyday settings. This limited teaching approach restricts the freedom of expression and creation of original music. This is why so many people quit lessons early on!

I have a natural affinity for teens and adults. I know very well their needs, interests, frustrations, etc., so I tailor their programs accordingly. I incorporate FUN (the music they enjoy!), FUNDAMENTALS (important skills such as music theory, technique, etc.), and FUNCTION—putting those elements together in a practical and relevant way.

Keep in mind that as much as I love to teach and transform people’s lives through music, I’m VERY selective in whom I take into my studio. I invest plenty of time and energy in helping people get what they truly want, so I expect that they take seriously the value that I’m offering them. I am NOT specifically looking for talent (though it’s a plus). My typical and ideal clients, again, are teens up to baby boomers who have the right mindset, positive attitude, and desire. They’re also open-minded (open to new ideas and methods and enjoy learning and listening to different kinds of music, etc.), real go-getters, fun, easy-going, dedicated, motivated, realistic in their expectations, and most of all, willing and able to invest their resources (time, energy, finances, etc.) to go the distance until they see real results.

I am also expanding my services to include beginning guitar lessons in pop/rock/indie/alternative styles. And yes, I’m also looking for students who fit the above ideal client description!
